Cook’s & Housekeeper’s Rooms
These two bedrooms were occupied by the two highest-ranking servants at Locust Grove. Mrs. Jones, the Young’s housekeeper, managed the staff of four waitresses and maids who kept the household running each day. From her private room (top photograph), she could easily supervise the storerooms and workrooms on this floor.
A succession of cooks occupied the other staff bedroom(bottom photograph) on this floor and enjoyed a small but sensible iron bed and a large desk for keeping track of orders, menus, and recipes.
