Meissen "Rose" Dinner Service
Dresden, Germany
c. 1875-1900
#1149
Purchased by Martha Young for Locust Grove’s famous garden parties, the Meissen Rose dinner service includes 174 pieces of porcelain, including lunch plates, dinner plates, tea cups, saucers, serving platters, and vases. Manufactured at the Meissen factory in Dresden, Germany between 1890 and 1914, the set reflected the gardens at Locust Grove. At the time Martha Young purchased this dinner service, the Locust Grove Gardens would have had hundreds of varieties of roses. Our gardens still feature many beautiful rose varieties today, which bloom between late May and late June each year.
