The top rail is carved with two putti and the initials "CS" for Caroline (nee Olmsted) Sargent, with twist-turned uprights, upholstered center, and seat, raised on twist-turned block legs joined by matching stretchers. Originally designed for “Wodenethe”, the Sargent family estate in Beacon, NY, and described in A. J. Downing’s “The Architecture of Country Houses” (figure #302).
