Part of a set with seven matching side chairs, each with Empire-style dished top rail inlaid with fruitwood stringing, raised on saber legs. The back and seat are covered in silk fabric.  Purchased by William and Martha Young at the 1893 auction at Plum Point, the VerPlanck family home in New Windsor, New York.  William VerPlanck was Mr. Young's law partner, and he took the other half of this suite of parlor furniture.
