Two Piece Ball Gown

c. 1890
LG-C-0026

Made of heavy cream-colored silk patterned with pink roses, the dress includes a bodice and overskirt cut away in the front to show a plain silk underskirt. The bodice, sleeves, skirt, and matching sash are all trimmed with a ball fringe in green, pink, and cream. On the back, you can see a hint of a bustle (large bustles were on their way out of style by this time) and the beautifully shaped waist.
